The Vivo V series of smartphones have been around for several years and are extremely popular in the market. Their biggest selling point has always been their exceptional selfie cameras. The Vivo V11 is the newest in the V series of phones. It offers many of the features found on the pricier Vivo X21, like an on-screen fingerprint sensor, though it is more selfie-centric.
Is the Vivo V11 Pro worth the purchase price?
What’s special about the Vivo V11 Pro?
- The Vivo V11 Pro has a smashing 6.41-inch Super AMOLED display with excellent brightness and color accuracy.
- The phone has an excellent 12 MP rear camera and an equally good 25 MP front camera.
- The Vivo V11 Pro comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner.
Design: Slim and Trim
The Vivo V11 Pro gets top marks in the looks department. The phone is compact and easy-to-handle, despite its large 6.4-inch screen. The phone has a trendy plastic polycarbonate body at the back, with a nice glossy glass finish. The display is almost completely edge-to-edge, with thin bezels on the top, sides, and bottom. The thin bezels, the water drop notch, and the rounded edges all combine together to make the phone look very stylish.
The screen has a tiny water drop notch at the top which houses the selfie camera. The fingerprint scanner, as we mentioned earlier, is located under the screen. You need to place your finger on the display to unlock the phone or you can use the lightning-quick face unlock feature. The display will light up when it detects motion, telling you where to place your finger. The screen is protected by a pre-installed plastic scratch guard as well as Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Display: Vivid Halo FullView Display
Vivo has done a great job with the display. The V11 Pro has a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with a full HD resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and a ratio of (19:5:9). The display has an excellent pixel per inch (PPI) count of 402. The screen has high brightness, making the phone usable even under direct sunlight. You can use an in-built temperature adjustment toggle to improve color accuracy. There’s also an “Eye-Protection” mode that can make the screen warmer for when you’re reading text.
The water drop notch at the top allows plenty of room for the status bar on the side. It’s small enough to not break the immersion when you’re watching videos or browsing photos. The Halo FullView display does a great job of delivering vivid, lifelike pictures and videos. The AMOLED display can render blacks perfectly. It’s no stretch to say the V11 has one of the best displays in the mid-range segment.
Camera: Exceeding Expectations
You can expect the V series of Vivo phones to have good cameras. With the V11 Pro, Vivo has exceeded expectations when it comes to the camera department. The phone has a dual-camera setup at the back and a single selfie camera at the front. The primary back camera is 12 MP with a wide aperture of f/1.8. It’s supported by a 5MP, f/2.4 depth sensor. The selfie camera is 25MP with an f/2.0 aperture.
The back camera works like a charm. There’s no shutter lag. Pictures captured during the day or at night have rich detail, a wide dynamic range, and great contrast. It does a good job of clicking both up-close and at-distance photos. The camera offers auto HDR support which can allow you to click beautiful photos in variable light settings. The camera also supports 4k HD recording. The selfie camera is definitely standout. It has an AIFace Beauty filter that makes it easy for you to click stunning selfies. The camera app is well-designed and offers many features that allow you to tweak your photos.
Performance: Fast Processor and Plenty of Storage
The Vivo V11 Pro has an up-to-date, blazing fast processor: the Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon SDM660. The Snapdragon SDM660 processor has 4 Kryo cores running at 2.2 GHz and 4 Kryo 260 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. The phone offers a lot of RAM at 6GB. You can choose between 64GB and 128GB of storage. The phone also offers expandable microSD storage of up to 256GB.
The Vivo V11 Pro is fast and intuitive. Apps boot up very quickly and there’s no lag when you run demanding ones. Browsing the internet, streaming videos, and multitasking is all seamless. The phone has a good enough GPU and processor to run the latest games lag-free. The 256GB of storage means you won’t be running out of storage anytime soon.
Software: Android 8.1 Oreo
Out-of-the-box, the Vivo V11 Pro runs Android 8.1 Oreo with a custom Funtouch OS. Funtouch OS is very different from the stock Android you might be used to. Vivo has changed up the layout of the icons found in the home screen, like the Smart Launcher. The OS does support extensive customization and themes, though, so you can change everything to your liking. There are many useful pre-installed apps like WPS Office, UC Browser, and NewsPoint.
There’s a useful Control Center window which opens up when you swipe up from the bottom of the screen. Here, you can turn on or control features like Bike Mode, which allows you to reject calls and respond to them automatically with an SMS. The OS supports motion gestures, which makes navigating the Vivo V11 Pro a breeze. Vivo is slated to release an Android Pie update for the V11 Pro sometime in 2019.
Battery Life: Lasts for a Very Long Time
The Vivo V11 Pro has a big screen and a powerful processor, both of which require a lot of juice to run. Is the 3,400 mAh battery up to the task? Yes, it most certainly is. The battery holds up well when you’re streaming videos, browsing the net, or talking on the phone. Playing a demanding game like PUBG drains the battery quicker. After a day’s moderate use, you can expect the V11 Pro to retain a good amount of charge.
You can charge the battery up quickly thanks to fast-charging support, which Vivo dubs as Dual Engine. The battery can go from 0 to roughly 50 percent in 30 minutes, and up to 75 percent in approximately an hour. That means even if you do manage to drain your phone dry after heavy use, you can just pop in the charging pin for a while and then continue to use it.
The Bottom Line
The Vivo V11 pro has an outstanding selfie camera and a Halo FullView display. The phone looks stunning and is very speedy. You’ll have very little to complain about this phone and it’s definitely worth the asking price.
