“I’m too busy to even sit down and relax for some time”. How many times have you caught yourself saying something along these lines? Well, we understand that all of us are busy with work, travel, household chores or family responsibilities, but sometimes, we just get habitually busy. Which means, we’d like to believe that we are busy even when we are scrolling endlessly on social media or just watching our favorite show for an hour or two. And, we totally deserve those one or two hours of relaxation but is it the best way to spend those one or two hours? Maybe not. It is crucial that your free hours are helping you relax mentally and physically. One amazing way to do this is to take up a hobby. It is one of the best distractions from your busy and stressful day. It is proven to be one of the best ways to get rid of stress. Here are 3 reasons why you need a hobby:
Reason #1: Socialising will become your A-game
Bonding with people with similar interests is always easier. Your hobby can help you connect with communities that have similar interests. Attending workshops will expand your social circle. Not just that, you need a hobby to view things from a completely different perspective. You’ll have so many more experiences to talk about.
Reason #2: Say goodbye to negative stress
Our busy lives and hectic weekly schedules can lead to a lot of stress. A little bit of positive stress is good as it keeps you on your toes. But, there is a fine line between positive and negative stress. Once you start leaning towards the negative, things start to fall apart.
When you take up a hobby, you make time for something you absolutely enjoy and most importantly, it isn’t about your regular work. This helps your mind get into a relaxed state. Even on days when you are absolutely bored, hobbies become your savior. If you pick a hobby that is right for you, you will have something to look forward to every time you need a distraction, some ‘me’ time or just to kill time.
Reason #3: Discover a better version of yourself
You need a hobby to challenge you in a way that boosts your confidence. Learning a new skill does that to us. Taking up a hobby also teaches you to be patient. When you start learning something new, it’ll take a few tries before you nail it but you are going to continue trying until you get it right because you enjoy it. This creative outlet is going to keep your mind active and soul happy.
Hobbies can be extremely helpful for your mind, body, and soul if you pick the right one. To find the right hobby, dive into what interests you and keep your strengths in mind while doing so. Ensure that whatever hobby you choose challenges you to an extent and is relaxing at the same time, ‘cause if not, there are chances that you’ll lose interest very quickly.
So, pick a hobby of your choice and spend at least a few hours a week doing what you enjoy. It may be calligraphy, sculpting, candle making, photography or even learning a new language. Just see what gives you the ‘feel good’ factor and get started. Cut out that negative stress and get absorbed in your new, favorite activity.
Discovering a better version of yourself is very important at every stage of life.
